Term Climbing plant

Any plant that does cannot stand upright on its own, but needs support (of another plant, a wall, or other) for climbing. It is not a parasitic plant, as its objective is only to receive more light. It is also called a vine or scandent plant.

An example of a climbing plant typically found in the Dominican Republic is the passion fruit vine (P. edulis flavicarpa), a strong, vigorous, evergreen climber which can reach 9 meters in length under favorable climatic conditions.
