Dominican Republic exported waste with a value of RD $57.391 million

According to a publication on the website of national newspaper, El Día, during the past seven years the Dominican Republic has exported recyclable materials with a value of RD $57.391 million to several countries on five continents.

This amount is the result of the sale of 3.1 million tons of waste, to be processed and marketed in the United States, China, Indonesia, Canada, Guatemala, Korea, Vietnam, Germany, Italy, Bangladesh, Haiti, the Netherlands, Panama, India and Brazil, among other countries.

The figures are the Center for Export and Investment of the Dominican Republic (CEI-RD by its acronym in Spanish), the Central Bank (BC by its acronym in Spanish), the Directorate General of Customs (DGA by its acronym in Spanish) and the National Statistics Office (ONE by its acronym in Spanish). These relate only to exports of metal, plastic, glass, paper and cardboard.

They point out that during the last seven years, and as a result of the export of these recyclable materials, the country has received an injection of foreign exchange over 1286.8 million, for an annual average of 183.8 million US currency.
