Term Intertropical Convergence Zone
Definition

Geographical area located between the Tropics of Cancer and Capricorn, divided into two equal parts by the Equator.  The intertropical zone presents special climatic features which distinguish it from temperate and polar zones, due to the Earth’s movement around the sun and the angle of the axis on which the planet moves.  The intertropical zone is characterized by little variation in temperature throughout the year, and it is the richest area on Earth in terms of renewable resources and biodiversity of plant species. The Dominican Republic is located in the intertropical zone.

This area is also known as the tropics or the torrid zone.
