Term Kingdom
Definition

A hierarchical category within the scientific classification system, which includes phyla or similar divisions. For example, the animal kingdom, the plant kingdom and the fungi kingdom (mushrooms).

Kingdoms are one of the largest subdivisions that encompass all living beings, which are distributed according to their common characteristics. Currently, the kingdom is the second rank in the classification, after the domain. The most accepted classification system is that of the six kingdoms, which are bacteria, archaea, animalia, plantae, fungi and protista. This system has become the standard.
