Term Silviculture

A set of techniques and practices in forest and plantation management aimed at commercial use and / or environmental conservation. It is the art of rehabilitating, restoring and preserving a forest or plantation, and the theory and practice applied to the establishment of a forest mass, its composition and development.

A silviculture system is a sequence of treatments designed to obtain a desired outcome or a specific condition in a forest throughout the entirety of the tree cutting cycle.  Silviculture treatments include specific actions to control the establishment and composition or growth of the forest, to maintain and improve wooded areas, both in quality and quantity, and to continue providing forest products in a sustainable manner over time. Examples include canopy thinning, liberation, refinement, artificial regeneration, selective extraction, thinning and resource use.
