Term Rock
Definition

Solid aggregate composed of one or more natural minerals. Rocks are generally hard materials, although there are rocks that are soft, such as clay or sand. Rocks are classified according to their chemical and mineral composition, texture, permeability and their formation mechanism. Under these parameters, there are three types of rocks: igneous rocks (formed by the solidification of magma), sedimentary rocks (formed by the consolidation of sediment from erosion or dissolution of other rocks) and metamorphic rocks (formed by rocks that have been subjected to high temperatures and pressures). The rock cycle describes the process of transformation from one type of rock to another.
