Term Resilience

In ecology, resilience refers to the ability of an ecosystem to return to its original state following a disturbance. Research has shown that the ability to absorb disturbances is directly related to richness of species and the number of ecological functions that an ecosystem carries out, meaning that more complex and diverse ecosystems have higher resilience and are more capable of withstanding shock without significantly altering their structural characteristics or functionality.
