Term Forest Reserve
Definition

Nationally recognized land covered by forests or lands suitable for forestry-- which can be state-owned, private, municipal or community property-- the characteristics of which enable it to protect soil, water and wildlife, or which may have the potential for sustainable production of timber, firewood, charcoal and other forest products. Its management should be primarily aimed at conservation or sustainable use, or the protection of a particularly important natural resource such as water. Forest reserves can be strict conservation reserves to ensure their future usefulness, or special management reserves, which allow for the current use of their resources.
