Term Controlled burning

A technique used in forest management, whereby a fire is set according to a prescribed technical plan, applied to natural vegetation under specific time, fuel and soil moisture conditions. Controlled burnings permit the confinement of the fire to a given area, limiting risks and favoring the control of the fire’s intensity. An example of this type of burning is back burning. It is also known as prescribed burning.
