Term Zooplankton
Definition

Microorganisms that float in aquatic ecosystems. They belong to the animal planktonic community. These are heterotrophic organisms that feed on organic substances, positioning themselves as primary consumers in the food chain. Zooplankton is made up mostly of protozoa, of the larvae of larger animals, such as sponges, worms, molluscs and echinoderms, as well as by larvae and adult forms of small crustaceans and young fish.
