Term Seawater

Salt water, such as that found in the ocean, but not in lakes, rivers or streams. It has an elevated salt content, around 30–50 parts per thousand, and is characterized by its sodium chloride content. Its composition is relatively uniform, meaning that the proportion of its components is always approximately the same, although their combined concentration varies. Salinity is an indicator of the concentration of salt in the water, expressed in parts per thousand (%).
