Term Caribbean Sea
Definition

 Tropical sea in the Atlantic Ocean, bordered on the North by three of the Greater Antilles (Cuba, Hispaniola, and Puerto Rico), to the East by the Lesser Antilles, to the South by Venezuela, Colombia and Panama, and to the West by Costa Rica, Nicaragua, Honduras, Guatemala, Belize, and the Yucatán peninsula (Mexico). The Caribbean is the second largest sea in the world, with an area of approximately 2,754,000 square kilometers. At 7,686 meters below sea level, one can find the Cayman Trough (also known as the Cayman Trench, Bartlett Deep and Bartlett Trough), the deepest point in the Caribbean Sea. On average, its salinity is 35 to 36 parts per thousand and the surface temperature is 28° C.
