Term Coastal plain

Area of flat, low-lying land adjacent to a seacoast and separated from the interior by other features, which often continues out to sea as an underwater continental platform. In general, this term refers to either an accumulation of alluvium transported by rivers, or an emerged sea floor. Plains in the Dominican Republic include the plains of the Atlantic, Sabana de la Mar, and the Southeast and Azua plains.
