Term Conventional Agriculture
Definition

Farming production system based on the high consumption of materials that are external to a natural production system such as fossil energy, synthetic chemical fertilizers and pesticides. Conventional agriculture does not take into account the environment, its natural cycles, or the rational and sustainable use of natural resources. Also known as industrial agriculture or chemical agriculture, this type of farming is implemented in the Dominican Republic in more than 90% of national production. The main crops grown using this conventional system are rice, plantains, tobacco, beans and vegetables.
