Term Epiphytes

Plants which, without being parasitic, blossom in trunks and branches of trees, using them as support in order to favorably position themselves to receive the rays of the sun.

In addition to living on the bark of a tree trunk or branch, they can also grow on a leaf of another plant, usually an herb, tree or shrub. Epiphytes are frequently found in tropical forests and sea grass. In the Dominican Republic there are many species of epiphytes, the most common are ferns, orchids, bromeliads and mosses, which are found in the country’s rainforests.
