Term Crop

Cultivated plants or agricultural produce, such as grain, vegetables, or fruit, grown to be harvested as food, livestock fodder, fuel or for any other economic purpose. The main commercial crops in the Dominican Republic include sugar cane, rice, cocoa, coffee, tobacco, tomatoes, bananas, plantains, and mangos. There is single crop farming, where only one crop is planted, and mixed farming, which combines different crops in one field (e.g., coffee bushes under the shade of bananas). In general, mixed farming allows agricultural production to triple, while increasing native biodiversity in the farmed area.
