Term Coral
Definition

A group of colonial animals (small polyps), with a calcareous skeleton, that belong to the Cnidaria phylum and Anthozoa class. The polyps have the ability to fix calcium dissolved in the sea to their tissue, forming rigid structures characteristic of coral reefs. The colonies are formed by thousands of individual zooids and can reach large dimensions.
