Term Forest Certification
Definition

A process that certifies that a forest area meets the regulations for sustainable forest management. It is a marketing instrument that guarantees the consumer that a certain timber or forest product comes from forests managed in a responsible and sustainable way. The certification is a document issued by the Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources which states that the forest management of a certain forest and/or plantation meets the technical, social, economic and environmental criteria, principles and indicators of existing environmental law.
