Term Channel

Refers to the physical confines through which rivers, streams or creaks flow. Can also be manmade, as is the case with irrigation channels which are dug to bring water to agricultural lands. There are 17 water-producing areas located in the main mountain ranges of the Dominican Republic. The Central Range has the largest number of springs, with about 709 rivers and streams. There are 243 river and stream beds in the Northern Range and 193 in the Eastern Range. Other water-producing areas are the mountains of Neiba and Bahoruco.1
