Term Carrying capacity

Maximum density of individuals of one species that a given habitat can withstand without a significant negative impact. Factors influencing the carrying capacity are: amount of food, living space, water, and other vital elements. At a global level, it is the maximum load that humankind can impose in a sustainable way on the environment before it is unable to sustain and nourish human activity.

It also refers to the ability of the environment to absorb or withstand external agents, without deteriorating to a point where it affects its own regeneration, prevents its natural renewal under normal conditions, or significantly reduces its ecological functions.
